Are flash memory based portable media players set to rule the consumer market over there hard drive brethren in years to come? That seems to be the case according to market research firm iSuppli.
Chris Crotty, senior analyst of consumer electronics for iSuppli, sees the number of flash PMPs growing by a factor of more than 25 in the next five years. Full Story »

Turbolinux, a maker of Linux-based solutions, recently announced they were expanding the global presence of their rather unique wizpy portable media player. What makes this device so interesting for many is that you can use it (sort of) as a portable computer.
The wizpy, when you connect it to a PC, boots into a Linux operating system from which you can interact with a variety of applications. Full Story »

Blue Raven Technology, a maker of CE products, has unveiled a new portable media player which has built-in DVR capabilities. The MediaMate 7000 series consists of a 40GB model ($380) and a 80GB model ($430) and should be available now.
The built-in DVR capabilities of the MediaMate 7000, which sports a 7-inch display, let you record video content from third party sources such as a DVD player or television without needing a separate docking station. Full Story »

I was just wondering the other day what had become of the SanDisk Sansa View, which was first unveiled at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. Now I know - it is on long term hold.

Cowon put out word today about a new widescreen portable media player we can only hope will someday hit American shores. The L2, with its nice seven-inch display, is now available in South Korea (you lucky dogs).
What is perhaps most interesting about the L2 is it has built-in GPS technology. Full Story »
Venzero, which brought us earlier in the month the Venzero Mini, is pushing a new portable media player now which is more in line to compete with the likes of the iPod nano. Venzero is dubbing this PMP the Slickr (?).
