The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is the trade organization to which major consumer electronics manufacturers belong. Their biggest impact in the consumer electronics arena is the yearly Consumer Electronics Show (CES). One committee of this organization - the Mobile Electronics Committee - has announced a new standard which will more easily let consumers play and charge their portable media players in their vehicles and at home.

Memorex has gone and stepped into the world of portable media players with the recent unveiling of the 4GB MMP8640. While the specs on this player are nothing to howl in excitement about it is interesting to note the venerable Memorex brand name is showing off their first color screen player.

The MMP8640, besides having the 4GB of flash memory, sports a 1.8-inch QCIF+ color screen. Full Story »

Epoq portable media player devices look to have taken a different form factor with this Epoq MP4 Video Wrist Watch, one of several currently for sale at online retailer First to You. This particular watch is priced at around $170.

While I’m not a huge fan of having something looking like a scientific calculator watch on my wrist, this video wrist watch (model EMP-CVWC-2) at least attempts to look decent with its contemporary metal case. Full Story »

Following from the Venzero MiniOne, it has been announced that Venzero are to release the imaginatively named Venzero Mini.

This device is mini by name and nature measuring a smallish 39 x 53 x 13 mm (1.53- x 2.09- x 0.51-inch) and weighing a measly 35 grams. Full Story »

You may not have noticed (we didn’t either) but Microsoft looks to quietly have killed off their once highly publicized Portable Media Center platform for portable media players. While there’s been no official word from Microsoft corporate on this, a post recently placed by what is believed to be a Microsoft employee confirms the PMC saga is indeed over. Full Story »

One portable media player which recently caught our eye is the Brica Viewart 1000. This PMP, being imported by Calibryze, is priced at $265 and available in black or white colors.

What’s most interesting to us about the Brica PMP is its ability to act as a camcorder, recording video in 320 x 240 ASF format at up to 30 frames per second. Full Story »
