Archos today took the wraps off their long awaited fifth generation of portable media player products. Leading the line up of this new group of PMPs is the Archos 605 WiFi.
The Archos 605 WiFi is, as the name implies, capable of using wireless connectivity to stream video onto the PMP or out to a TV. This player is loaded to the gill with features, delivering what could be a winner. A high resolution 4.3-inch screen is touch sensitive and lets you interact with the on-screen control interface. You can also use the wireless connectivity to surf the Web, share content and view video from Web sites.
Three storage capacities will be available for the Archos 605 WiFi - 30GB, 80GB and 160GB. There’s also reference to a 4GB flash version on the product’s Web site. A new DVR docking station will enable you to record television programs Tivo style through a personalized television program guide. You also be able to get content onto the Archos 605 WiFi through the Archos Content Portal, a new venture the PMP company is doing with content companies to provide movies, TV shows and music downloads directly to the player without needing a PC.
There’s support for a wide array of media file formats, including MPEG-4, WMV, MP3, WMA, JPEG and more. Battery life on the rechargeable battery is estimated at 5.5 hours for video playback and 17 hours for audio.

In addition to the Archos 605 WiFi, the company was showing off slides at a press conference with basic information on the other new Generation 5 models. You can see that slide below - for more details on the conference check out this forum over at ArchosFans.com.

Details about the other players are reported on by TWICE, a consumer electronics newspaper. A summary of its report indicates a 705 model which will be wireless and have a seven-inch screen, a 2GB 105 model and a 2GB 405 model with SD card slot and TV-recording capability.
