Engadget is reviewing a new service called GadgetTrak that uploads remote tracking code to any USB-connectable device. In the event that the device is stolen, information about its whereabouts is sent back to the original owner in the form of current IP address, usernames, etc.
It appears the GadgetTrak website was not prepared for a front-page story on Engadget, as their site is currently down. Plug in your stolen iPod before they recover.
GadgetTrak is the latest of a series of small property tracking GPS solutions, my favorite of which is the Global Pet Finder GPS. Unfortunately, this technology was not adopted by my neighbor whose dog was recently stolen at gunpoint. Luckily the local PD rescued the kidnapped pooch.
