next_gen_mp3.thumbnail.jpgEveryone is just waiting for something to be released in terms of mp3 players that could potentially Apple’s iPod to shame. In the last 5 years Apple has managed to take the entire mp3 player industry by storm with a variety of players spanning from pocket players to full multi-media devices.

BroadBand InstrumentsBroadband Instruments, a venture-backed consumer digital media company based in San Diego CA, is planning to take mp3 players to the next-generation with a device they are hoping will put the iPod to shame. Broadband Instruments certainly has the players in its arsenal to pull this off too as they have some of the most brilliant minds in the industry. Jim Cady, who helped launch the Rio 300 in 1998, is included in this bunch. Along with Dennis Mudd who was the CEO of Musicmatch. Another big name is Jonathon Sasse, former chief executive of iRiver America.

Putting these minds together surely has to create something very special. That is exactly what they plan to do as the firm is working on a mystery product which should be unveiled within the next few months. It will feature wireless connectivity, integrate online radio stations, and focus on social aspects for communication. Many other as yet unmentioned features are planned as well.

The new player will join an already swamped mp3 market but will do something no one player has yet to do and that is to download music directly. This means that no wired connections such as USB or anything will be necessary making it a full-out standalone mp3 player device totally independent and not reliant on any computer or other form of technology.

Excited yet? You should be! If this doesn’t have you excited then you may want to look into smoking crack cocaine. The announcement coming within the next few months should be nothing short of revolutionary.

I applaud anything that upstages the overrated and overpriced Ipod line!

I guess you’ll have to pay to download, but what if you already bought a CD and want to convert your music to your MP3 player without having to pay to download the songs you already purchased on CD again?
